 Job Description

Job Title: Teacher of English as a Foreign Language    One year contract

Reports to: Director, Sandra I. Morimoto

 

General Description:

Teaching English as a foreign language to students ages 3 to adults. General duties include daily preparation of lesson plans based on the school's curriculum and some preparation of material for teaching. In addition to this, teachers are expected to support the school in its annual Christmas Concert and biannual Summer camp for the children's classes. Teachers are expected to  prepare their classes for the contest-like Christmas pageant and to offer ideas and full support to the school for the children's Summer Camp.

Hours: 40 per week; Monday ~ Friday or Tuesday~ Saturday, 1:30pm~9:30pm. Teaching hours are 25~27/week

Spring Break ( this year's Spring Break was March 26 ~ April 6)
Golden Week ( this year 4/30~5/1; 5/4~5)
Summer Break ( this year it will be August 8~August 16)

Salary/Others:

Monthly salary: Highly competitive

Reimbursement of airfare up to ¥150,000
Half of the cost of health insurance during the SECOND year of employment

Accommodations:

Fully furnished apartment located within walking distance from the school, at a cost of ¥60,000/month+ utilities. No deposit.

Desired Candidate Specifications

Education:    Bachelor's degree in English, Linguistics, Education, ESL/EFL or other related fields

Experience:    2~3yrs. teaching EFL/ESL to both children and adults

Intellectual Characteristics:

            The candidate:

must have excellent knowledge of English grammar and be able to explain it to non speakers of English.

bullet

must have excellent oral communication skills and appropriate knowledge of vocabulary, spelling and of the English language as a whole. Must be a native speaker of English.

bullet

must communicate effectively one on one and in small groups with both children and adults.

bullet

must be familiar with basic methods for teaching English to speakers of other languages of all ages.

Personal Characteristics:

            The candidate:

must be energetic and speak clearly and loudly in both the children's and adults' classes.

must have a strong desire to succeed in every lesson and show dedication to teaching by preparing well for each class and making a genuine effort to meet his/her classes' needs.

must not mind singing/acting with the children.

is patient with children and low achievers.

bullet

is firm but yet sweet with children.

bullet

has good managerial skills for a classroom situation and thus will be able to handle discipline problems.

bullet

is friendly and talkative with adults

bullet

is respectful towards all students and has a clear understanding that the students are paying customers.

bullet

cooperates with supervisor and school as a whole; is respectful to all coworkers. Shows empathy and "tunes in" to the feelings of those working around him/her. Understands the impact of one's behavior on others.

must have interest in making a real contribution to the school, rather than simply "get by" with what is expected.
